Position Zero is commonly called a “featured snippet” because of its unique display, which sets it apart from the other search results. But why is this term used, and what makes it stand out from other search results?
According to Google, a featured snippet is designed to provide a quick, concise answer to a user’s query without requiring them to click through to a website. The term “featured” refers to its prime position at the top of the search results page. As per my understanding, it’s the most visible result, making it stand out from other search results that simply list links.
Featured snippets provide instant, at-a-glance information, often taking up more space and attracting more attention from users. In my experience, this makes it the most coveted position on the search results page, especially for queries seeking definitions or specific answers.
In my opinion, being featured in Position Zero helps increase your website’s visibility and authority on the topic.
Position Zero is called a “featured snippet” because it appears at the top of Google’s search results in a distinct box, providing a direct and concise answer to a user’s query. Unlike regular search results, featured snippets extract key information from a webpage and display it prominently, often in paragraph, list, or table format. This placement makes it highly visible and increases click-through rates. It stands out by offering quick, authoritative answers, often being the primary response for voice searches as well. Optimizing content for featured snippets can significantly boost organic traffic and brand authority.
