Link spam<\/strong> refers to any deliberate attempt to manipulate rankings by creating, placing, or distributing unnatural links\u2014typically low-quality, irrelevant, and scalable\u2014designed to influence algorithms rather than help users.<\/p><\/blockquote>

This includes spammy backlinks<\/a>, manipulative anchor text<\/a> patterns, unnatural growth in link velocity<\/a>, and link placements that violate Google Webmaster Guidelines<\/a>.<\/p>

In semantic terms: link spam is not a \u201clink-building strategy.\u201d It\u2019s a distortion attempt on the authority graph\u2014trying to steal the effect of link equity<\/a> without earning it.<\/p>
