The contact form looked fine and sent every lead nowhere

In short

A form with no destination accepted messages and threw them away, with no error for the visitor or the owner.

What I did

The contact page had a form that looked normal. In the code it had no action, no method and no field names, so nothing was sent anywhere when someone pressed submit. I connected it to a handler that saves every lead first and then sends the email.
Where

A lead-generation website on WordPress, August 2026
What changed

I sent a test message through the live form and it arrived. Every lead is now saved even if the email fails.

It worked
What you should do

Fill in your own contact form today, as a customer would, and check the message arrives. Do it again after any theme or plugin change.
How long it took

About an hour

A contact form is the part of a page that sends a visitor’s message to the business.

Why it matters

On a lead-generation site, the form is the business. Every visitor SEO brings in is wasted if the form fails silently. Here, a visitor saw nothing wrong and the owner received nothing, so neither side knew.

Saving the lead before sending the email matters too. Emails fail for many reasons, such as spam filters or mail server problems. If the lead is saved first, it is never lost.

How to check your own site

  • Submit your own form with a test message. Check your inbox and your spam folder.
  • On WordPress, use a form plugin that keeps a copy of every entry in the dashboard.
  • Repeat the test after every theme update.

What this changed in how I work

I test the form before I test anything about SEO. More traffic to a broken form is worth nothing.
